What We Do Not Buy

This list is intended to provide an outline of materials that are not accepted at Becker Iron & Metal. There are provisions and conditions noted that may provide for the acceptance of some of the materials. This list is not meant to be all inclusive and Becker Iron & Metal reserves the right to accept or deny material at their discretion.

Aerosol Cans Empty, with visible opening including being punctured or crushed.
Appliances-Refrigerators All refrigerants must be evacuated and seller must certify the removal of CFC & HCFC.
Asbestos Containing Scrap None (if prior containment and asbestos removed in accordance with applicable regulations we will accept)
Ballasts If labeled “No PCBs” only
Barrels, Drums and Other Containers Empty, open to allow inspection, bearing no hazard or warning labels or placards that are not covered with a “Certified Clean” or equivalent decal or documentation, and containing no non-metal materials or fluids.
Batteries, Lead-Acid Only Accepted at the warehouse only where they can be inspected thoroughly for leaks and punctures. If found to be leaking any substance they will not be accepted.
Brown Goods- Microwave Ovens, Televisions None
Capacitors If labeled “No PCBs” only
Compressed/Liquefied Gas Cylinders and Vessels (oxygen, propane, acetylene, argon, refrigerants, fire extinguishers etc All containers must be cut completely in half. Or certified to have contents evacuated.
Electronics (circuit boards, computers, monitors, radios, office equipment, etc.) None
Flammable materials (gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene, paint) None
Lead Painted Scrap None

Mercury switches, thermostats or other mercury containing devices. None

Scrap Containing excessive trash or non-metallic recyclables None
Scrap containing fluids (oil, fuel, coolant, antifreeze, cutting oil, hydraulic oil, solvents, etc.) All fluids need to be drained prior to delivery.
Shells, munitions None
Tanks, above ground and underground storage (mobile, portable and fixed) Preferably cut in at least two pieces but a minimum of a 2 foot hole at both ends. To allow for inspection of interior. Must be thoroughly cleaned of liquids and gases and be odor free.
Tires None
Transformers Dry type or documentation supporting that oil did not contain greater than 50ppm PCBs.
Used oil filters None
